Re-opening of IELS Gozo

Three times smaller than Malta, Gozo is an ideal destination for those wishing to study English in a serene atmosphere in the heart of nature. On top of extraordinary landscape and a lifestyle evolving around the sea, you will discover a rich historical heritage dating back to prehistory.

With fewer than 30,000 inhabitants, Gozo is a quiet haven filled with history and culture. Referred to as “a diamond in the middle of the Mediterranean”, Gozo is a top spot for many divers. Home of the nymph Calypso, Gozo is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and breath-taking coastline.

If you think Malta is the best place to study English – sun, beaches, Mediterranean lifestyle – but are looking for a deeply relaxing experience, Gozo is the place to be.

Greener and smaller than Malta, Gozo offers English learners a one-of-a-kind experience at a more leisurely pace. In Gozo, you can witness traditions and habits long vanished from the rest of Malta and enjoy a warm climate, fresh local food, as well as enjoy the company of humble and friendly people.

The island offers many beautiful trails, from hiking on cliffs to hour-long walks by the sea. If you’re up for eating grilled fish with your toes in the water, do not miss out on Marsalforn, a traditional town in the south. If you’re more interested in museums, history and art, the place to be is the capital city, Victoria. Also known as Rabat, the Gozitan capital is history-filled, fortified city not to be missed. Victoria hosts the Gran Castello Historic House (folklore museum) as well as a magnificent baroque Cathedral, the Museum of Archaeology and a torture museum located in the 16th-century old prison. Between cultural places, houses, cafes, shops and other magnificent buildings, there stand two opera houses, nowadays mainly used as discotheques or cinemas. History lovers will also greatly enjoy the Ggantija Temples, some of the oldest temples in the world, dating back to 3000 B.C.

Gozo is a very affordable place to stay at, with traditional Maltese sandwiches (Ftira) from only €1.50. And if you are one for simple pleasures, picnics on cliffs surrounded by sea and sky are a big favourite here. Another lovely spot is Xlendi, a small bay filled with naturally shaped arches and caves, turquoise waters and a few other great picnic spots. The beach is also very shallow at first, allowing swimmers of all ages to enjoy the refreshing touch of the water and games on the sand. Surrounded by hotels and cafes, Xlendi also offers many spots to share a good meal or enjoy a coffee in the sun.

Seduced by what you read and want to make the most of your English study holiday? Gozo is a fascinating place to visit and experience for a few weeks!

The returning rate of the IELS Gozo school speaks for itself. With 85% of our students coming back, the school feels like a home away from home, a place where you come to learn English but also to reconnect with the friends you made from all over the world.

A once in a lifetime experience

Located in Ghajnsielem, IELS GOZO is a short ten-minute bus ride from the Gozitan capital, Victoria and just a few minutes away from the Mgarr Harbour, a perfect location to cross to Malta in a 25-minute ferry ride. The crossing to Malta mainland is a wonderful opportunity to admire the landscapes and the island of Comino, the sole non-inhabited island of the archipelago.

IELS Gozo offers bright, airy, fully renovated and air-conditioned classrooms, in a peaceful, stress-free environment.

Many students appreciate the small scale of the school: with only 75 students at maximum capacity, it is easy to get to know everyone and get that family feeling. The four self-catering apartments in the residence located above the school makes socializing easy. Students also have the option to stay with host families in villages in the vicinity or opt for hotel accommodation.

What makes IELS Gozo special:

  • Small classrooms of max. 10 students
  • 24-hour student support
  • 85% returning rate
  • On-site school residence
